Walking alongside each other – providing a haven in the middle of hardship, need and loss – is central to our calling to be community in the world.
As we worked on our vision for Nokomis Heights, it became clear that we value sharing food. The number of people in need of meals has skyrocketed since 2020, and we are committed to stepping into that gap through the partnerships listed below. We need your help!
Pick up free to-go Loaves & Fishes meals every Wednesday between 5 and 6pm from Nokomis Heights’ side door (facing 53rd Street). These meals are free to anyone – no questions asked. You might have had a hard day and simply cannot cook dinner. Or maybe you’ve paid your last bill for the month and cannot buy groceries. Whatever your circumstance, you are invited.
We are always looking for volunteers to help prepare and serve these meals and to clean up afterwards. Use the volunteer link below if you’d like to join us, and make sure you’re signing up for the Nokomis Heights location.
New Creations Ministries runs an amazing food shelf, providing a three-day supply of food each week to households in the surrounding communities. New Creations is located just a few blocks away, and we support their inspiring work.
Everyone is invited to help them pack boxes of food on Monday afternoons. You can often see Nokomis Heights youth there!
Our Saviour’s Community Services is a source of hope for those who need a home, providing shelter, support and a chance to start over. Each year they serve 650 men and women experiencing homelessness. Nokomis Heights volunteers prepare, deliver and serve a meal to the residents several times a year.

South Minneapolis Meals on Wheels is always looking for drivers! Through the Meals on Wheels program, we provide a friendly face and healthy food for people unable to easily get around who need both. Nokomis Heights volunteers deliver lunches for one week out of each month. During our week, we need five drivers each day from about 11:15am until about 112:30pm. We pick up prepared meals and deliver them to the homes on our list.
